Imokaleeeeee

When people first started settling in Imokalee, their focus was on hunting and farming. It was an ideal place for families who wanted ample land to grow food and raise cattle. Today cattle is still raised there, and has retained it simplistic ways of life in comparison to cities around it like Fort Myers.

Imokalee is definitely a place of the Old American Dream. People moved there in the 1800’s to raise families, farm and live the simple life. It’s not as populated or developed as other areas in Florida, but I definitely could see it becoming more developed in the future.

Where I grew up in Davie, FL it’s really nothing like Imokalee, except for the small town feel. Davie is very developed and populated even though it’s small in size. I have no doubt that Imokalee will continue to develop and flourish.

  1. I totally agree with you when you started talking about the Old American Dream, I felt the same way about it, but I also kind of felt that they were also the New American Dream only because the kept so many of their old ways and are still using them today.

  2. I will say that I agree that the Old American Dream is still strong. I guess I fail to see a "New American Dream". In my opinion it has always been the hope to achieve a stable job with support to raise a family on. I think you summed it up perfectly connecting the hopes of the town and how it has remained a family focused area. Every interview was with the granddaughter or grandson or original owner of these lands.

  3. I agree once Immokalee gets its high population it will grow. Without more people why would it grow? All of the new people are not going to have the same dreams of the people allready here. They just want to make money and support thier families.

  4. I agree those in Imokalee are on their way to achieving the American Dream. You mentioned they lead a very simple life and I feel that is a big factor in acheiving the dream overall. However I'm not sure if Immokalee will begin to develop any more than it has. Perhaps it will begin to flourish but it is doubtful it will ever become as developed as its surrounding cities.
