10 Things To Love About 10 Things I Hate About You

10 Things I Hate About You is a 1999 adaptation of Shakespeare's play "The Taming of the Shrew". I remember going to see this movie in theatres and loving it, and have since purchased the DVD. This movie takes an old, classic theme and proves it to be timeless by applying it to a modern day highschool and it's students. The humor and witty remarks almost mask the love story behind it all, but everything comes together to create a movie for all ages.

In 30 Years...

It’s 8:30 and I hear Justin Bieber serenading me with his hit from 2010 “U Smile”, (gotta love the oldies!) from my holographic projector in the middle of my room. Now that I’m awake and in a great mood, I talk to my boyfriend using the same holographic projector, this time in the video chat setting. After that I go to my CCA 6000 to pick out my outfit for the day. Then I stand under my straightening machine and get my hair done in 4 minutes. My teeth get brushed by the arm that comes out of the mirror, then tells me how beautiful I am while it does my make up. Finally, ready to leave for class I get in my auto-drive flying machine called a Doopaloid that drops me off right in front of class in 27 seconds. I actually want to learn in class so I don’t use any the new Subtracterol that is supposed to make you “smarter” but I think it’s an addictive substance that the company just wants you to but more of. Then I get back in my Doopaloid and go to my dorm where Ashley and I go to the Money Dispenser X25 to get money to go shopping. We jam out to John Mayer’s 35th Plantinum selling record all the way there and live happily after.

Tutorial

This tutorial was very helpful. Even though I knew some of this information, the tutorial was a good refresher and taught me some things I didn’t know. Doing the matching activity (matching the parts of the citation such as journal titles or author, to its source) was useful and more fun than just the quizzes. This tutorial was overall useful, and reminded me of some information I could use for research and citations.

The Last Song Trailer

The trailer for The Last Song, based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, does an excellent job of creating anticipation for the movie. It features music by Miley Cyrus, who stars in the movie along with the shirtless Liam Hemsworth, which is enough to catch any girl’s attention. The trailer shows heart felt moments and dramatic scenes that capture the hearts of adults and teenage girls alike. In my opinion this movie will be a great representation of the book telling the story of the relationship between a father and daughter, first loves, and everything that happens in between.

Less Privacy Is Good for Us (and You)

In this article written by Amitai Etzioni, privacy is viewed from a "less is more" standpoint. Etzioni states that the less privacy we have, the safer we are. Although this may be true, privacy is something everyone is entitled to. I believe privacy is something that should be balanced in a way that people are safe going on with their day-to-day activities, but shouldn't be worried that just anyone can track them at any given moment. The Fourth Amendment is prohibiting unreasonable searches and seizures, and Etzioni thinks this is the way privacy should be limited. It;s obvious that no one should be allowed to ransack your house for no reason and this Amendment supports that. When it comes to safety and health, Enzioni feels privacy comes second. I can't say that I disagree or agree exactly. I like my privacy as much as the next guy, but my safety does come first.

Imokaleeeeee

When people first started settling in Imokalee, their focus was on hunting and farming. It was an ideal place for families who wanted ample land to grow food and raise cattle. Today cattle is still raised there, and has retained it simplistic ways of life in comparison to cities around it like Fort Myers.

Imokalee is definitely a place of the Old American Dream. People moved there in the 1800’s to raise families, farm and live the simple life. It’s not as populated or developed as other areas in Florida, but I definitely could see it becoming more developed in the future.

Where I grew up in Davie, FL it’s really nothing like Imokalee, except for the small town feel. Davie is very developed and populated even though it’s small in size. I have no doubt that Imokalee will continue to develop and flourish.

The article I chose to read, “A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many, One?” by Anna Quindlen focuses on diversity at its best. She talks about numerous different ethnicities, cultures and beliefs that all call America “home”. Quindlen describes America as being built in no ones image because of all the people who come here for a better life, for freedom, from all over the world. She talks about how other countries have had such diversity, yet divided because of them. Quindlen praises America for its diversity and unity, especially after the 9/11 tragedy. She also makes a point that in a way every person of every race balance relies on each other like the Jewish cabbies and Arab passengers, or Arab cabbies and Jewish cabbies. No matter how much the two hate each other, they depend on each other.

I found this article interesting. I liked the way the author made comparisons and analogies. Her idea of diversity is very true, how Americans are so different in so many ways, yet were unified just because of where we live. Tragedies and devastations have sadly but truly brought us together in ways other countries aren’t aware of. Unity is something a country needs, thrives off of, and America has it.
